While testing with Alliance of Therapy Dogs is completely volunteer on Monica’s part (you can contact Monica if you feel you are ready to test!), she is available to meet with and discuss therapy dog work, give you hints and tips, and help you train towards becoming a therapy dog team. Training sessions can include working on, no jumping, being calm for petting, loose leash walking, tricks to make visiting easier (think head rests or paws up for smaller dogs), becoming dog neutral, and more.

Please note, not every dog is cut out to be a therapy dog. Therapy dogs are both born and trained. If your dog enjoys visiting with you and close family, that does not automatically mean your dog will enjoy visiting with strangers, children, people with disabilities, or those going through emotionally tough situations.
